Red Hat released its latest 6.3 update to its Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system. This new update was released so that the servers can make use of all the latest advancements in technology over the past 6 months. After the release, the focus is mainly on the routine for updating the servers powered by RHEL 6.0. That involves updating the driver stack and installing updates in the kernel. Make sure that your Linux training course instructor gives you details about the enhancements available through this update.
What Does The New Update Offer?
Red Hat has included updates for its device drivers, which are supposed to improve the input/output breakpoint handling and memory handling for virtualized guests. These tweaks are being made so that the operational capability of the RHEL is better than its rivals’. This improvement is specifically intended to counter competition from Citrix Systems’ XenServer, VMware’s ESXi, and Microsoft’s Hyper-V.
Updates to Suit Processors Being Released in The Near Future
With new processors being released by leading providers such as IBM, Red Hat has made some changes to the Kernel such that it will adapt to the processors which will be released in the near future. IBM is definitely going to release their Power7+ and zNext processors later this year. Intel and AMD will also want to catch up to IBM and are supposedly working on new iron.
However, Tim Bruke, Linux Engineering’s vice-president, highlighted the fact that this release was specifically intended to make use of the technological advancements in hardware which we have recently witnessed. But he did not confirm that the new update would make the RHEL compatible with the new processors being released in the future.
Experts took a different viewpoint on this issue as they said that the new updates will make the edition compatible with the upcoming processors. The reason for that is the fact that these server processors will be extensively tested before being released to the market. RHEL will be one of the enterprises, using which they will be tested.
