Those who work with Java should be interested in learning that February saw a lot of development as far as Java is concerned. This means companies stayed abreast with all these changes with the help of the latest Java training courses in the market. Today, there are many websites on the internet that can keep you updated with news regarding Java. One such page is the Java page, which is maintained by Oracle Technology Network (OTN). The OTN publishes all the latest stories regarding Java and its developments. Here are some new developments that were published on the OTN Java page recently.
New Versions for Java Language and VM
February saw the announcement of the new versions of Java Language Specification and for Java Virtual Machine. JLS7 and JVM 7 were made available on the Oracle site in both PDF as well as HTML format. It is expected that these specifications will soon be present in a book format as well. Apart from announcing the availability of these specifications, which are meant explicitly for Java SE 7, a lot of history regarding these two specifications was also revealed. It was stated that only a big release is capable of changing both JVM and Java language.
You will also find that the specifications are not named after the edition, like the third edition for JLS. Instead, the specifications are now named as per the edition of Java SE with which they are linked to. This is actually a much better way of naming them as it makes things a lot clearer. To those who are wondering why this was not done earlier, the reason is that JVMS and JLS have been available before the Java Community Process. This means that there was no SE platform to which they could be linked to.
Java Updates an Extension of End of Life for SE 6
Many companies and Java training courses which utilize Java 6 might be happy to note that the end of life date for JDK 6 has been extended from July 2012 to November 2012. The main reason for this extension is to provide more time for a smoother transition from JDK 6 to JDK 7. The new date was added to the Java SE EOL Policy on 15 February 2012. Various other updates were made available for Java as well. Java 7 got update 3 and Java 6 got update 31. Also, the 7u4 developer preview and 6u32 developer preview were made available.
