At this years TechCrunch Disrupt 2011 conference in San Francisco, a start-up Israli company, Shaker, took the $50,000.00 top prize. Shaker is a new social application that works with Facebook. It is a virtual bar scene, where you can connect with your friends, and your friends, friends, just the way you would if you were to go to a real bar.
The way Shaker works is when you allow access to your social graph via application permission, it tells Shaker all the information that it needs to work as a social experience. There are three privacy settings so that you control how much information you want to share.
When you enter the bar, some of your friends may be in there, and some of their friends, and you can interact with them the way you would in a bar. You can buy someone a drink, start up a conversation, and walk away when you want to. Shaker says that it is not a dating site, but we will see how it evolves over the next few months as it takes off.
This years TechCrunch Disrupt 2011 had some other interesting app. ideas and many of them should get picked up and take off.
