Oracle had entered into the government business domain by being the technical partner for United Kingdom’s G-Cloud initiative. The company is now looking to bolster its business by launching its third data center in the UK. The company said that this data center was opened to specifically service the G-Cloud initiative. The new center is situated near the Thames valley. It is designed to offer cloud services and infrastructure as a service, both to government bodies and for individual software vendors, who are also a part of the state contract. If you are taking Oracle training classes, you will be aware of how seriously Oracle is targeting the cloud service, and this step is certainly a big move in establishing Oracle as a big player in the cloud domain.
Strategy for Localized Cloud Deployments
Mark Hurd, the president of Oracle, explained that the Equinix Slough data center (the new data center in UK) is a part of the local cloud deployment strategy that Oracle has. He said that the data center would reinforce the London and Linlithgow data centers that were the initial support centers for UK’s G-Cloud venture.
Why Local Data centers?
Hurd also explained the reason behind the three new local data centers in detail for the general public. He said that a range of data issues and other issues like data sovereignty issues, security issues, regulatory issues, and data location issues will crop up as the cloud deployments continue to grow and evolve. It is one of the main reasons why Oracle chose a localized data deployment model, rather than using its world-renowned data centers in other locations around the world. Oracle at this point of time owns three data centers in the European region, one in Netherlands, and two in the UK.
This strategy seems to be working for Oracle successfully, and we might see this trend continuing in the future as well.

United Kingdom’s G-Cloud initiative sounds like some kind of diabolical government conspiracy straight out of a Marvel comics movie script. It sounds like a villain role in The Avengers. In any case, the G-Cloud deployment model seems to be limited to the U.K. and other European countries. I may be wrong, but I don’t see any indication that this type of technology is prominent in the United States. If it is, then it certainly creates anticipation for American developers.

So this is going to be strictly for people in the government or under government contract, is that right? I think that is a god idea because they have a lot of sensitive material that you don’t just want out on the cloud so by making them one of their own that gives them a little piece of mind that what they are storing on there is safe and secure.

I am not sure what is meant by a localized data deployment model’, but since Oracle is clearly looking to become a major player in the cloud services market, this can only be an exciting and positive prospect for anyone who is taking or considering taking a course in Oracle. I would say that the Firebox training course is only going to become more popular as more new developments continue to transpire with Oracle and their projected growth.
