The reasons why IT organizations are looking to the cloud are to improve the effectiveness of everyday operations, the quality of delivery, and also the efficiency of the tasks. To verify this fact, Oracle partnered with a company called Dynamic Markets and surveyed over 1,300 executives. All these executives belong to companies that have revenues of over $65 million. The results were pretty astounding.
The survey showed that operational silos prevented these companies from achieving improved business performance that cloud technology promised. This also highlights the need for broader, integrated cloud applications set. This topic makes for a very interesting topic for discussion in your Oracle classes. This will also enable to understand the cloud technology better.
The Good, Bad, and Ugly of Cloud
Recently, Oracle released a report titled as ‘Cloud for Business Managers: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly’. This report studied the impact and the effectiveness of the cloud. The report shed light on how the cloud is still not able to deliver in accordance with its potential. Businesses have not integrated all the business applications into the cloud effectively. This has resulted in a lot of operational inefficiency and also poses a number of innovative challenges to businesses.
A Few Statistics about the Survey
The survey was very extensive and the business decision makers were interviewed from a wide range of sectors like Marketing, E-Commerce, Sales, R and D, CRM, HR, Finance, and other similar sectors. All 1355 respondents were asked a series of questions on what the impact of cloud was on their respective businesses.
52% of the business managers reported that they had to face staff downtime owing to the problems in cloud integration. But even more surprising was the fact the some departments in the company that were not using cloud applications were also affected by cloud integration problems.
52% of businesses also reported that they missed deadlines because of issues associated with the cloud. Almost three quarters of the respondents (75%) reported that they could not innovate because of the lack of cloud applications integration.
The Solution
The report clearly shows that cloud definitely has the potential to improve business but it is not being used effectively at this point of time. The technology has to be implemented evenly across all facets of business to be able to affect the efficiency and flow of events positively.
