MS Office Updates in Oracle Business Intelligence Suite 11g
Oracle and Microsoft have not locked horns in the IT market for a while now, especially considering the diverse paths they have taken in recent times. However, what was surprising was the fact that Oracle has added integration to Microsoft Office tools in their latest version of business intelligence enterprise, the Oracle Business Intelligence Suite 11g. An update called as the ‘Smart View for Office’ will allow users to make use of the abilities of MS Office reporting while retaining the impact of Oracle BI. This add-in is available for Oracle BI, Hyperion, and Essbase Enterprise Management Performance apps.
More about Smart View Update
If you have taken up OBIEE training classes, you will know for a fact that memory analytics is one of the key components of Oracle Exalytics. Reporting for memory analytics is also a tricky aspect that Oracle managed to get right, by providing the add-in for Microsoft Office. This ensures that there are more than 200 ways of visualizing the data, which is compiled by the memory analytics feature. OBIEE training courses always have a few sessions and tutorials on data visualization as this is a very important activity.
What the Smart View feature essentially adds to the memory analytics is the capability of exporting data in the Excel or CSV format, which is native to the Microsoft Office Suite. Data can be imported directly from the Oracle Business Intelligence Dash boards. Using Microsoft Excel, calculations, data, and visualizations, reports can be generated and managed. Essentially, this will mean that the users don’t have to know how to work with the tools on the business intelligence enterprise.
Another advantage of this add-in is the Hive Open Database Connectivity interface usage. Using that interface, data sources on Hadoop can be easily accessed. Also, both unstructured and structured data can be used for business analytics, with the updates available in the 11g BI edition.
