Privilege Access Suite for UNIX released by Dell
Technology giant Dell announced the release of its Quest One Privileged Access Suite for UNIX users in the recent 2013 RSA Conference. This is a one of a kind suite that will combine the prowess of root delegation technology and Directory Bridge using a unique and intuitive interface.
UNIX and Linux based have been prone to attacks from hackers and also sometimes get compromised by a disgruntled employee sharing privilege access data. To prevent this, Dell has unified all the servers with a single Privilege Access Suite. This will ensure individual accountability and also enable UNIX reporting in a centralized format.
Dell announced that it has facilitated 3 different account management activities using a single, unified console. This allows UNIX administrators to resolve the security and management shortcomings.
UNIX Quest One Privilege Manager: This system has been designed in such a way that the entire capability of root access is comprehensively protected from abuse or misuse. It will also allow the admin to define and also enforce security policies about the root access. Also, this will allow a single user to effectively control the time and duration for which individuals can perform admin functions.
Sudo Quest One Privilege Manager: This module will allow managing accounts using Sudo to a whole new level. It will completely remove the inconsistent and inefficient box by box management system that is being employed today. A number of other activities that are performed using Sudo have been centralized, allowing a greater degree of control and eliminating security issues and even access misuse.
Authentication Services: Active Directory’s compliance and security is extended using Dell AD bridge solution for Linux and UNIX. This will extend to enterprise applications and Mac systems also. With tight integration and potent management interface, authentication services for both UNIX and Sudo will ensure that security remains uncompromising as long as possible.
Survey on Behalf of Dell Quest Software
A survey was conducted before the actual project of Dell Quest Software was undertaken. This survey showed that more than 46 respondents have access to an excess of 100 privilege accounts. This is a clear sign that UNIX based servers are not all that secured. If you are taking UNIX training classes, make sure that you learn about security issues are UNIX systems are very much prone to security vulnerabilities.

This is reassuring to me because I recently bought a Dell laptop computer with Windows 8. It uses many apps which work off the cloud. So it is really good to know that Dell is on top of things with regard to security for their servers and whatever in the way of programming.
