ZyLab North America is a company that provides products related to information management and e-discovery. They make use of XML to archive data for their customers. That is why basic information of XML, which can come from XML training courses, is useful when dealing with products from ZyLab.
E-discovery has been growing over the last few years as well, with big companies like EMC, Symantec, and Seagate creating new products and acquisitions. With these big name companies acquiring e-discovery companies, there has been an amalgamation of storage technology with electronic discovery. Today, it is a lot easier to store data and use e-discovery for managing information on a long term basis.
To archive the data, ZyLab uses Extensible Markup Language (XML) format which is open and non proprietary. E-mail messages, files, bitmaps, and content from SharePoint can be stored in the XML format.
This is what makes Zylab a favorite among many organizations, including the U.S President’s office as well. ZyLab was also present at the LegalTech 2012 Convention in New York to showcase what they have to offer. Zylab believes that when it comes to archived data, there is no need for transaction based databases like SQL and Oracle. Since the archived data is not used in ongoing transactions, you do not need a proprietary tool. The data is stored in XML, and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) is used for communicating with different programs.
Advantages
The main advantage of using XML is that organizations will be able to save a lot of money which would other wise go in purchasing the licensing fee and hardware. Also, the company will be able to use different open source software for encrypting and automating the work flow.
Many people were of the opinion that by using open standard, ZyLab would not be able to compete with bigger companies like Symantec and EMC. However, ZyLab has released a series of tools called cloud collectors that help in capturing e-mail messages from Office 365 and Microsoft Exchange Online. Also, these tools are able to send messages to applications that run on POP3, Exchange ActiveSync Protocol, and IMAP. These include Windows Live Hotmail, and Gmail. To learn more about the working of these tools and the role of open XML, you should take an XML training course.
Guidance Software
Guidance Software is a company similar to ZyLab and they have come up with a feature for collecting e-mails. Their e-discovery application called Encase will now have Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo mail support after the release of EnCase e-discovery 4.4. There is a brand new connector framework with this update that allows it to collect messages from 30 email archives and gather data from IBM storage repositories and different storage providers.
Guidance Software already had support from SharePoint and Office 365 servers. This new version will also give users the ability to search trough data collected previously. There is also support for optical character resolutions which allows users to receive texts from an image file or a PDF.
