Linux fans have a lot to look forward to this year with the unveiling of new products that could shine the spotlight on Linux. Here is a look at some of the newest products powered by Linux.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Hybrid
A customized version of Linux features prominently in the new ThinkPad X1 hybrid by Lenovo laptops. The ThinkPad X1 features the Instant Media Mode that lengthens the battery life and is based on [Linux]. The hybrid laptop also features a customized operating system based on Linux, a dual core processor and memory up to 16 GB. Users can easily switch to the Instant Media Mode by clicking on the icon present on the home screen of the laptop. Enabling this mode allows the laptop to operate similar to a smartphone. This feature keeps the laptop running for longer and reduces the frequency of charging. The ThinkPad X1 Hybrid is priced at $1599.
Qooq
Another gadget running a customized version of Linux is the touch screen tablet by Unowhy. This new gadget is a boon for cooking lovers as it is a kitchen ready device. Qooq is designed as a water and food resistant gadget, and is equipped with a screen that can operate even when exposed to water. The easy wipe screen with waterproof buttons makes it the perfect accessory for a kitchen. Priced at $399, this device offers over 3,500 recipes and 1,500 in video. Qooq is equipped with a 1 GHz dual core processor by ARM Cortex-A9. You can also enjoy interactive features like meal planning and create shopping lists. Standard multimedia functions like email, mp3, weather forecast and internet browsing are also available.
OLPC XO 3.0 Tablet
Priced at a meager $100 and less, the XO 3.0 tablet PC is a low power computer designed by Marvell and One Laptop per Child (OLPC). This low cost laptop is designed as an educational aid for students around the world. The display draws its charge directly from solar panels and alternative sources of power like hand cranks. These tablets can be run on Linux-based operating systems like Android and Sugar.
Ubuntu TV
Possibly the biggest release this year for Linux will be Canonical’s Ubuntu TV. This Smart TV works on an operating system based on Canonical’s customized version of Ubuntu Linux. A prototype of the new Smart TV is out now. Ubuntu TV features a Unity interface that will be distributed to TV manufacturers and customized for their own products. Brushing up on a technology course or two will be helpful in keeping up with today’s market.
